I know that it is truly hard for the human mind to personally grasp and digest large numbers as statistics when those numbers are used to explain and educate us upon the human condition! I stated that, myself, in postings I made earlier this week.
Having written that and having just admitted that I DID indeed state that, Let me now look at a legal matter that to many of us, myself as well at time, too far apathetically. Do we agree that finding a cure for AIDS would be a marvelous thing? Do we believe that it might be possible that in a grouping of 45 million children their might be a child that could one day come up with a cure? Within a cohort of 45 million children, Is it possible that there might be one or more children who could bring an end to the scourge of Breast Cancer? Could there be another Beethoven, Mozart, Martha Graham or Michelangelo in a throng of 45 million children? At least 45 million preborn children- babies- girls and boys - one child at a time- have been aborted since the 22nd of January 1973.
Ours is a rather compassionate and caring society! We argue long and hard against executing the most vile and cold hearted murders. We give readily and enthusiastically to victims of disasters here in the US and all over this planet we all share! This contrasts with how we treat preborn children! No preborn child has ever offended anyone, They are the very DICTIONARY and TEXTBOOK definition of the word and entire concept of innocence! If they are, in anyway, to be considered a problem, It is because others consider this boy or girl to be a problem, not because they are, truly and by any measure of fact or reason, A! PROBLEM! Some may label them a " mistake or an accident" . If there is an accident or a mistake here, it is on the part of the people who acted to conceive this girl or boy as HE And SHE used poor judgement, did not think through their proposed actions, had a poor sense of timing or just did not act responsibly.Shifting the blame to the preborn girl or boy does not alter the truth and simple and basic reality!
People who have a basic and innate sense of fairness passionately believe it is wrong, immoral, unethical and evil to inflict unnecessary and avoidable pain and suffering. Sadly, Some of the methods used for abortion are intensely and inhumanely painful! Again, What has this boy or girl DONE to MERIT suffering this type of torturous death. Is this, in fact, deciding that they must pay the price for the choices made by others. No child ever decides the circumstances of their creation. They have 100% nothing at all to say in that matter!
I fully grant that Abortion on Demand is a part of the law of Our Land. While one can advise, counsel, strongly recommend and ardently advocate, You cannot LEGALLY prevent anyone from having an abortion. I also do understand the issues of rape , incest and the life of the mother and do acknowledge that these are highly personal and extremely emotionally charged issues! I do believe that rapists and those who commit the crime of incest need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. If they are found guilty by the jury of their peers, I am fine with them serving EVERY second of their sentence no parole not one second off for good behavior. You did this hideous crime, YOU WILL do ALL of the time!
I do know and again this is truly an Individuals choice, that SOME mothers will decide to make the life of their preborn child an equal or greater priority than their own, " Please do everything possible to save BOTH my life and my child's life!". That individual mother might choose to go BEYOND this, "If you can't save both of us, Then, My Child's life is THE Priority!". No one, certainly, can be compelled to do this BUT some choose to respond this way.
The Rape and Incest matters are more delicate to address. There are some women, certainly NOT many, who will decide to love, give birth to and raise their child in SPITE of how that girl or boy was conceived. They hold the offended responsible for their criminal assault upon them not their innocent son or daughter. In my opinion, Those who DECIDE to fight for their preborn child are truly heroes! We honor our Military Men and Women and Our Police and Firemen for their service. We celebrate these men and women serving in these roles as heroes when they act above and beyond the call of duty. The mothers who decide, in spite of the circumstance to fight for their children to be born, to me, are acting above and beyond the call of duty, especially when they find themselves in traumatic situations!
I know that a male MUST be involved in any act of conception. Yet. Legally men are granted a special and protective status in this situation. They do not have a veto in the woman's decision. They are bluntly told, by the law, " This is not!! a matter you have any say in!" so as long as this be true all you can do is shake your head at and strongly chide and rebuke the man for his part in creating this situation. You cannot ask him to do anything about a situation that he is legally barred from being a party to. He can offer to step up, to marry her,to, if this is not acceptable to the woman. promise to be there for both her AND the child and provide the needed emotional AND financial support. If The Mother decides still, after he offers all of that to her, sTILL says , "NO!!!", The decision has been made/
I do believe that churches and caring and committed people can do more to be supportive to help pregnant women in distress and children who are born in and are now living through difficult and stressful settings and circumstance. God is not pleased with people who throw out pretty but truly worthless and obnoxious platitudes to those in crisis situations rather than offering positive, creative, meaningful and TRULY effective support and assistance. We CAN certainly ask that the adult in crisis choose to do all that she- in this case- can to cooperate and work with us and do all that she can possibly do to help herself!
We can certainly do all that we can to help adoption more of a realistic and affordable option for more people! We also can suggest that sexual relationships outside of a secure and committed relationship engender difficulties and that ever action is absolutely connected to consequences! She is certainly not regarded well by everyone but Doctor Laura often states that she is absolutely in favor of women being " Pro-Choice before they engage in sex!"
It is a choice but a preborn baby is still a baby that will likely, all things being equal, become a valuable citizen of the United States in the same way that you NOW are! President Clinton once said that hid desire as President was to see Abortion be/ become " Legal- but rare!" I do hope for MORE than this to ONE DAY be true, but reaching that point would be a great improvement over where we are RIGHT!!!!! NOW!!!!!!
